Juniors

California Yacht Club's Junior Sailing and Junior Rowing Programs offer year round activities, instruction, and competition.

You don't have to be a member to participate. Sailing and rowing are special interests, if not passions, that last a lifetime and there is no better way to start than with the California Yacht Club. In addition to learning a new sport, or expanding skills, you will learn responsibility, self-sufficiency, and teamwork.

California Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program offers beginning through advanced racing opportunities as well as learn-to-sail and non-competitive sailing activities. Our Junior Race Team members sail Optis, CFJs, and C420s throughout the year on all levels, from local to international. Our learn-to-sail group lessons run year round as well, students learn on the RS Tera. The 2022 Summer Program will offer learn-to-sail and race group lessons, click the link below for more information!

California Yacht Club's Junior Rowing Program runs seasonally from September through June, and extends into Summer with several two week "Learn to Row" camps. The core instruction of the program is sculling. Singles, doubles and quads are the on the water tools for quality learning, and our inventory of ergometers are used for land training.

Junior Sponsor Fund and Competition Fund
The Junior Sponsor Fund and Competition Fund, through member contributions, offer two possible funding sources to support junior sailors or rowers competing on behalf of CYC in championship events. To simplify the process, the grant request form below may be used to make a request from either or both funds. Several things to keep in mind for grants from the Junior Sponsor Fund:
• Preference is given to those events that are open by invitation only, either through resume or performance in a qualifying event.
• Although the Junior Sponsor Fund will consider reimbursing entry fees, boat charter/transportation expenses and coaching, preference is given to funding entry fees. The Junior Sponsor Fund expects that competitors will seek reimbursement for their coaching expenses from the CYC Competition Fund, and their boat charter expense from the Santa Monica Bay Sailing Foundation.
• Grants are limited to junior members (i.e. children of adult members or Special Category Junior Members). Competition Fund grants are not limited to junior members, and may also be requested by adult members of CYC.
• Grants should be requested as far as in advance as possible, and no later than 30 days after an event.
