California Yacht Club prides itself on its enthusiastic and well-trained Race Management team.
To encourage new members to get involved and to keep everyone current, the Sail Committee runs a number of educational events. CYC’s Sail Committee also offers seminars that are of interest to the general sailing community.
Race Committee Training: Saturday, February 2, 9 a.m.
Lori Haythorn will introduce new and seasoned race committee volunteers to our new race committee signal boat, the Charles Hathaway. The session will involve hands-on race committee training on our new race committee boat and the mark set boats. There will be on shore and on the water instruction in such topics as flags, signals, communication, anchoring, recording and scoring. CYC volunteers will get to try their hand at different jobs. Sunset Series Seminars: Wednesday, April 3, 7 p.m. and Wednesday, April 10, 7 p.m.
This year we will have TWO Sunset Series seminars: the first is designed especially for Cruising Class racers and the second is our traditional Sunset Series Seminar. All who are interested in participating in the Sunset Series at any level are welcome at these free seminars.
On Wednesday, April 4, The Cruising Seminar will review how to enter and get your rating certificate, as well as starting and racing strategies, and basic rules. If you are new to racing and thinking of giving the Sunset Series a try, this is the seminar for you!
The following Wednesday, April 11, is our traditional Sunset Series Seminar designed for all racers. We’ll cover tips and tricks for a successful season, the rules of racing, in particular as they apply to Sunset, and hear from a guest panel of experts. How to get your children and family involved in the Sunset Series will be highlighted. After the panel presentation, we'll have Q&A about Sunset policies and procedures, and you can pick up the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions. Class splits will be announced. It's also a good time to meet and greet for skippers who need crew and for sailors who want to crew.
