Founded in 1922, the California Yacht Club has an impressive history of being among the premier yachting facilities in the world. CYC was honored as a “Platinum Club of America” for 2016-2018, an award given by the club industry to the top yacht clubs in the nation. California Yacht Club has also been voted "Best Yacht Club" by the Argonaut Newspaper
for the last five years.
Whether your interests are sailboat racing
, power boating
to our outpost on Catalina Island or other points, rowing
, paddle tennis
, relaxing by the pool (heated year-round), or a comprehensive youth sailing program
, CYC provides the perfect venue! We have over 100 activity groups here at the club and while many of them center around the water, others are non-water related activities as well. We have many active members in our Family Activities Group
, Sportsman Club
, Scuba Club
, Young Professionals Club
, and Book Club
to name a few. There’s something here for the whole family!
Wine Events, Chef's Nights, Mixology Events, and the Club’s many signature events
throughout the year bring our members together in a convivial atmosphere which enhances existing friendships and brings new friends together. Parents also really enjoy our “Parent Night Out” events because we plan an adult activity upstairs, such as a wine tasting or special dinner, while the kids have planned activities supervised by babysitters downstairs.
The Club also leads the way in advancing race management, boating safety, navigation and racing tactics through educational seminars, community forums and clinics. You don't need to own a boat to join CYC and the Club owns 2 Martin 242s that you're able to use through out newly established Keelboat Program
. It's the best of both worlds because you can go out sailing without having to worry about any slip or maintenance fees. If you don't know how to sail already then we'll teach out through our Adult Learn to Sail program
Our Speaker Series presents well-known nautical figures who attract local and regional audiences. Additionally, our Junior Maritime Center is an excellent venue for classroom education and instruction for young sailors and rowers. Our Amateur Radio Group
provides worldwide ham radio communications, training and mentoring, and maintains regional emergency/disaster communications readiness as an important public service.
CYC has an impressive reciprocal list of international yacht clubs
as well as yacht clubs in the United States
. Additionally, our affiliation with the Los Angeles Athletic Club
gives CYC members access to many business, social and athletic clubs internationally and within the United States as well as social use of the Los Angeles Athletic Club. These lists combined give CYC members privileges at over 850 clubs around the world.
About Our Members
California Yacht Club enjoys a diverse membership of people who share an interest in recreational boating, competitive racing and many other marine activities. Over time, California Yacht Club members have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the Olympics in sailing and in rowing. Many of our young sailors and rowers have competed and won top-level honors on both national and international regattas.
CYC has hosted both national and world championship regattas. Our rowing members organize and compete in the Head of the Marina Regatta
, a 5,000 meter head type race in Marina del Rey, inviting teams throughout the Southwest to compete. Our paddle tennis players have hosted and competed in the national championships on our Club courts. CYC also hosts the largest continual sailboat regatta in the world, the Sunset Series
, every Wednesday night from April-September, followed by a dock party complete with a BBQ buffet, DJ, and bar set up outside.
California Yacht Club encourages prospective new members to apply for membership throughout the year. To schedule a Club tour or for membership information, please contact Mary Stuart Deibel, our Director of Membership, at firstname.lastname@example.org
