Radio Amateur Group

The Radio Amateur Group (RAG) at California Yacht Club provides many valuable and interesting services to the Club and to the Community.  We provide service to boaters and others via our free, long distance Winlink HF and VHF Email SystemWe also provide communications and support for CYC Sail, Power Fleet, and Race activities.  Just as important is the CYC Amateur Radio (HAM) community that we foster and provide facilities at the club to support. The RAG has its own multi-radio HF/VHF/UHF voice, packet and data club station with a club call sign of K6CYC, and has been in operation since 1984.

The RAG organization moved forward with big plans in 2007/2008: We concluded a major capital update and expansion of our equipment and emergency inventory, and organized classes and presentations to improve the radio communication skills and knowledge of those club members interested in these activities.  In 2009 we plan to build on this base with more classes, events, and Communications Center updates.  Most importantly, we are keeping "HAM" radio fun for all, regardless of where their interests lie.

Drop by and visit us sometime.  You can't miss the radio room -- it has all the antennas on the roof and the blue "Communications Center" awning over the door!

We will have an "Antenna Party" at a date TBD in early 2009 to finish what could not be completed on October 4 and 5: We still need to install the 40 Meter element on the new Beam antenna and raise the 80 Meter Double Bazooka antenna.  Everything else is done and went spectacularly well!  Click for Pictures from Oct. 4th.  Click for Pictures from Oct. 5th.

The CYC RAG participated in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Special Event Radio Day on October 18 using Special Event Callsign K6C.   We made 181 contacts in 28 States and 7 Countries in 6 hours, and had lots of fun doing it!

The CYC RAG Communications Center Grand Rededication Ceremonies also took place on October 18, 2008.  Members of the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Disaster Communications Service, CYC, and dignitaries were present.
