Participation at Cal Race Week continues to be a highlight for many boats as more and more racers discover the pleasure of late spring sailing in Marina del Rey, with afternoon breezes in the low to mid-teens and perfect temperatures for racing around the buoys.

CYC expects many one-design classes to return in 2010 including the Farr 40, Schock 35, Farr 30, J109, J80, Star, Martin 242, J24 and Open 5.70 boats.  One-design classes wishing a separate start must submit five paid entries by May 17th.

PHRF classes are open to boats with ratings from –90 to 180.  Displacement and performance factors will be considered when establishing handicap classes in an effort to provide like-racing for competitors.  Cal Race Week is the third stop of the Ullman Series Inshore Championship for competitors in the 50+ Class, the 40+ Class and the Sportboat Classes.  Full details on the Ullman Series can be found on its official website: Ullman Sails.

Come see why California Yacht Club has won US SAILING’s St. Petersburg trophy for excellence in race management three times in recent years!  Multiple venues with separate start/finish lines will minimize interference between boats in different classes and insure that most of your time on the water will be spent racing.  The weekend’s hospitality will be a fitting complement to the on-the-water competition. There will be entertainment both days, with hosted beverages on the docks and a no-host BBQ on Saturday and complimentary beverages with hors d’oeuvres at the trophy presentation on Sunday.

California
Challenge

The Thomas K. Armstrong California Challenge Trophy is awarded to the yacht club team with the lowest combined score, counting each boat’s final class standing as one score.   Yacht clubs are invited to form teams comprised of three member boats, each competing in different classes at Cal Race Week.  There is no additional entry fee required to be eligible for the team trophy and a yacht club may enter up to three teams.  Click here for more information.
