4th of July Dinghy Cruise

A patriotically attired group of 70 enthusiastic CYC members joined together to celebrate the holiday with a bountiful lunch and complimentary margaritas at El Torito Restaurant.    With our dinghies decorated  for the occasion we paraded from the Club to t he restaurant behind the Etter’s party boat attracting lots of attention as we went.

With the margaritas flowing freely everyone got into the mood very quickly.  When Gale Namerow took the stage to lead us in a rousing chorus of God Bless America the group responded with a hearty rendition that could most likely be heard from one end of the marina to the other.  Standing next to Gale we had our very own Statue of Liberty in the person of Carol Watkins complete with crown and all.

After lunch some of the dinghies participated in another parade around the Marina led by Dusty and Brenda Rhodes in their creatively decorated dinghy sporting a plethora of flags from a raised framework crowning the passengers.  Bringing up the rear were Penny and Rear Commodore David Collins in their 27 foot trimaran.  With a full compliment of signal flags waving in the breeze it was a sight to behold.

As chairman, my personal thanks  to George Etter for once again making arrangements for the slip at Mariner’s Village and Nancy Sogg, and Bill and Maureen Tieman for their indispensable help passing out the goodies to decorate the boats and the people in them before the parade began.
